Do you want to help create a display at Queer Britain?

CONVERSION PRACTICES DISPLAY

WORKSHOPS

Conversion practices are still legal in the UK. Are you interested in learning more about the history of and the campaign to ban conversion practices?

Join Chair of the Ban Conversion Practices Coalition, Saba Ali FRSA and Exhibitions and Displays Manager (Assistant Curator) Beau Brannick to help create a display on the long history of conversion practices in the UK and how the Ban Conversion Practices Coalition have been campaigning for robust and effective legislation that will put an end to conversion practices once and for all.

What are conversion practices? ‘Conversion Practices are treatments, practices or services that seek to change or suppress a person’s sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression, based on the assumption that any sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression is inherently preferable to any other.’ You can find out more about conversion practices at: Ban Conversion Therapy

We’re looking for 20 intergenerational participants who identify as LGBTQ+ to join us over the course of four workshops at Queer Britain: The National LGBTQ+ Museum. We highly encourage participants to apply from faith-based backgrounds, the trans+ community and anyone who may have experienced conversion practices.

The workshops will help shape a new display as well as provide an opportunity to learn curatorial skills. The sessions take place on the following dates:

Friday 21 August 11am-3pm
Friday 28 August 11am-3pm
Friday 4 September 1am-3pm
Friday 11 September 11am-3pm

All sessions will take place in London, and we ask for a commitment to join the majority of sessions. Return transport within London to each session will be covered as well as lunch and refreshments.

To participate, please email using the Apply Here button below with the subject line ‘Body and Mind Conversion Practices Participant’ with up to 500 words about why you’d like to participate in the sessions. We will confirm participants by email on Wednesday 29th July. If you have any questions about the sessions, please email using the Ask a Question button below.
