Our Stories and Strategies oral history and podcast project is launched
THE QUILT PODCAST
AND ORAL HISTORY TOOLKIT
ANNOUNCEMENT
We are thrilled to announce the culmination of our Stories and Strategies oral history and podcast project, in partnership with award-winning podcast producers Aunt Nell.
Stories and Strategies aimed to develop approaches that would challenge received ideas about what counts as LGBTQ+ History - what kinds of research and knowledge are favoured, who is empowered to tell our stories, and how they are shared with the world.
Over 12 months, we worked with grassroots LGBTQ+ community groups across the length and breadth of the UK, bringing queer people together to share their personal, lived experiences in a series of story discovery workshops. The workshops were hosted in local heritage institutions and aimed to reframe personal testimonies as valid historical research. Out of these workshops, we have developed two exciting new resources for the public and for Museums and Galleries.
Launched on 12 November 2024, The Quilt is a podcast series taking the listener on a journey across space, time and living memory, weaving together personal stories in a beautiful patchwork of queer life as it has been lived across the UK. It is a unique archive for the future, available to all. Listen wherever you get your podcasts or using The Quilt podcast link at the bottom of this page.
The podcast coincided with the launch of a Best Practice Guide Toolkit, designed to enable the cultural sector to better support and engage with LGBTQ+ communities and their heritage. Drawing upon insights and information gathered before, after and during the workshops, it was presented to stakeholders and can be downloaded as a pdf below.
The project was made possible thanks to a grant from Mindsets + Missions.
