2018-2024
Queer Britain's archive of past activity and events
ABOUT US
This was the year our programme of Community Residencies began. We hosted three, each ending with a gallery show of the participant's work. For a second year, we took over a night at King's Cross Summer Sounds to showcase queer music. We exhibited the Heartstopper Pride Flag, commissioned by Netflix and visited on opening day by the cast. We launched our podcast series, The Quilt, and welcomed a new Museum Director, Andrew Given.
2024 ACTIVITY AND EVENTS
2023 ACTIVITY AND EVENTS
A busy, creative year. Partner Levi's flew over a selection of rare pieces from their archive in San Francisco for us to exhibit. We showed items from our collection at Christie's Lates Pride, took over a night of King's Cross Summer Sounds to showcase queer artists, and partnered with Gay Times and Skittles to create an exhibition that toured the country. We also launched our first crowdfund to help amplify queer voices.
2022 ACTIVITY AND EVENTS
A year of big moments. We secured our first physical home and won an award for Best Small Museum Project. We welcomed Diageo as a main partner and held an iconic event with Levi's, celebrating lost club nights at The Glory.
2021 ACTIVITY AND EVENTS
During lockdown, we worked with Diva magazine, MP Chris Bryant, screenwriter Russel T Davies and the Bank of England to create some fascinating online events. We also launched our first queer art award in partnership Madame F wine.
2020 ACTIVITY AND EVENTS
We tasked our followers to seek out lost treasures at home during lockdown and launched a project to record queer life during the pandemic.
2019 ACTIVITY AND EVENTS
From an In Conversation between Sandi Toksvig and Dustin Lance Black to our first London exhibition about Chosen Family with our partner Levi's, it was a year of getting out and about.
2018 ACTIVITY AND EVENTS
After a year of preparation, we launched the idea of Queer Britain at a reception in Oscar Wilde's favourite room at the Hotel Café Royal.
