UK BLACK PRIDE

EXHIBITION

Produced in collaboration with UK Black Pride and their co-founder, Lady Phyll, this exhibition celebrated 20 years of what is now the biggest LGBTQ+ event for Black and global majority people. Officially founded in 2005, the project grew out of the activities of Black Lesbians in the UK and formed against a backdrop of increased racism, homophobia and transphobia with the prevalence of far-right political groups. After facing rejection from white peers with regard to creating a specific event for Black, LGBTQ+ persons, a decision was made to create UK Black Pride. This exhibition included photographs, clothing, awards, books, ephemera and film from across the project's two decades. These images were taken at the private view on 3 June.
